If you own nothing yet, buy a single self-contained Starlight volume before any figure or LEGO set.
Then add one display piece
A 6-7 inch figure is the best value first collectible — statues make more sense once you have shelf space sorted.
Buy LEGO on sale, not at launch
Superhero LEGO discounts around 20% a few months after release, unless it's a retiring set.
Watch for limited runs
